Description
This is a Bizen sake cup by the Bizen treasure, Tsuyoshi Kaneshige, whose grandfather was a Living National Treasure and whose father was an Intangible Cultural Property holder. The piece was fired in a straight anagama (climbing kiln) where bricks were arranged to construct a pseudo-ana (tunnel kiln effect). It was rolled through intense flames during the firing process to achieve a deep, flavorful scarlet hue, resulting in a magnificent ash glaze (haikaburi). Its unadorned form, born from his honest character, is truly worthy of being called robust and unpretentious.
Original wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 6.8cm x Diameter 6.5cm x Height 4.9cm Tsuyoshi Kaneshige was born as the second son of Intangible Cultural Property holder Michiaki Kaneshige and is the grandson of the great Living National Treasure, Toyo Kaneshige. Tsuyoshi Kaneshige graduated from Ashiya College of Arts in 1988. He returned to Bizen after working at the Atelier Hikousen Ceramic Research Institute in 1992. He exhibited at the Bizen Young Artists Exhibition in September 1996 and has been active in exhibitions such as the Kaneshige Family Exhibition since May 1999.
