Description
This Bizen tea bowl is the work of Mashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating uncompromising, spirited pieces. Sensei Aiga’s direct, straightforward style suits the rustic, earthy texture of Shigaraki clay perfectly. While it naturally features the fine flow of stone particles and the undulating character of the clay itself, the overall form is generous and direct. At the same time, the foot has been meticulously chamfered, resulting in a beautifully cohesive finish that complements his linear style. Its large scale gives it an interior depth that seems to stretch on forever when peered into, and holding it in your palms feels as if you are the one being embraced by the bowl. The vibrant, bright tone of the clay, which makes the refreshing green of matcha pop, reveals a unique beauty found in earthenware that differs from typical Bizen ware.
