Description

This Oribe tea bowl is an earlier work by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. It is a refreshing piece featuring a rich, dark Oribe glaze applied over the light, slightly orange-toned clay of Shigaraki. Despite its large size, the bowl leaves a strong impression of meticulous detail, with a level of design—seen in the flow of the glaze, the placement of the kiln marks, and the delicate shaping of the rim—that is quintessentially Morimoto. The bright green of matcha pairs perfectly with the rich Oribe glaze, and the depth of the bowl's construction ensures it will be a piece to cherish for years to come. (*Note: As this work uses coarse Shigaraki clay, moisture may slowly seep through if left for an extended period, but the tea will gradually season the piece over time and seal it.) Signed wooden box to be provided later (currently in production; please allow some time for shipment).
Diameter 13.9cm x 12.5cm x Height 10.0cm Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976. He completed the Bizen Pottery Center program in 1996.
