Description

This Shigaraki sake cup by Mashiro Aiga is a work created with unwavering honesty and substance. It is a simple, bold piece that reflects Aiga's commitment to creating works that are true to his own heart, without resorting to affectation. The natural ash glaze, which varies in density in two layers, reacts subtly to the coarseness of the clay and the faint traces of the potter's wheel, imbuing the understated landscape of the piece with a wealth of charm. Choosing a crescent-shaped foot adds an accent of "carving" to the simplicity, effectively drawing out the rugged character of the Shigaraki clay. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 7.3cm x 7.0cm x Height 5.0cm Mashiro Aiga graduated from the Okayama Prefectural Bizen Pottery Center in 1997. In 2003, he built a fully subterranean anagama kiln in Sabu. The following year, in 2004, he built a second semi-subterranean anagama kiln and continues to dedicate himself to his craft.
