Description

This is the latest Bizen sake cup by Junpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of the master Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family. This piece features a rare aesthetic born from being buried in the glowing embers created by burning firewood during the firing process. Its most striking characteristic is the contrast between the gray sections buried in ash and the orange sections untouched by direct flame. This intense contrast, evocative of the ferocity of the fire, will serve as a superb visual accompaniment to any sake drinking session. Over time, the ash-covered areas will soften at the edges and take on a gentler texture, while the clear areas will develop an even deeper, more supple surface. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 6.5cm × Diameter 6.2cm × Height 5.0cm Junpei Kaneshige was born in Komaba, Tokyo, in 1972 as the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige. He graduated from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Waseda University in 1994. In 2000, he completed a graduate program in sculpture at Long Island University in New York, USA, and upon returning to Japan, he studied under his father, Kosuke Kaneshige.
