Description

This is an exquisite Ibe tea bowl, the latest work by Masashiro Aiga, an artist who creates works that are consistently straightforward and full of character. It is a masterpiece with a stunning presence and superb coloration that makes you feel as though you have fallen in love the moment you lay eyes on it. While large and bold, it is entirely free of any coarseness or lack of refinement; its careful, slightly thin construction, combined with a subtly perceptible, relaxed distortion, rests comfortably and pleasantly in the palm of one's hand. The rich, earthy texture—distinct from black, purple, or standard Bizen ware—is adorned with powerful yellow sesame glaze (kigo-ma) that looks as if it has been fired with gold dust, resulting in impeccable coloring. The yellow sesame, though located inside the vessel, evokes the image of water overflowing outward, and together with the smooth pools of glaze, it will surely create a magnificent scene at a tea ceremony. I believe this work is a brilliant manifestation of the dreams of a potter who has dedicated himself solely to the craft. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipping)
