Description

This is a latest Bizen sake cup fresh from the kiln by Masao Akiya, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality within a new spirit. Embraced by the intense flames of an anagama kiln, the exterior of the piece is almost completely covered in sesame glaze (goma). The goma, which changes hue depending on the location, displays a truly diverse range of variations, including white, yellow, and black. Inside the cup, a large amount of goma has crystallized, and looking at the parts where the crystallization has not occurred, it is as if amber has been unearthed from the sand. (*Please note in advance that the piece is slightly unstable.)
