Description

This is a latest *yohen* (kiln-transformed) sake cup fresh from the kiln by Masao Akiya, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality amidst a fresh spirit. *Yohen* from an *anagama* (tunnel kiln), which are difficult to produce in large quantities, have an atmosphere distinct from those of a *noborigama* (climbing kiln), resulting in a finish with an exceptionally strong red clay tone. Naturally, this red clay quality is also utilized in the interior of the cup; when sake is poured in, the color will appear even more vivid, surely delighting its owner. The knotted, cylindrical form is quite intriguing, appearing almost as if the sake cup had been stretched out like a spring.
