Description
This Bizen sake cup is by Hisanaga Koide, who has made his long-awaited debut after completing a long apprenticeship under the master Juroku Harada. Its substantial form, reminiscent of a craggy rock created through the coil-building technique, is combined with meticulously calculated cuts to produce a sake cup with a truly dynamic aesthetic. Worthy of special note is the quality of the clay in the cut sections; the rich, glowing shiso-red and orange tones evoke the taste of the legendary "Kannon-do" clay used by the great masters of the past. The interior also features a deep, tasteful orange clay color, and despite its flashy appearance, the clay itself possesses a calm, wabi-sabi atmosphere. The contrast between the form and the clay, reminiscent of his flamboyant master, Juroku Harada, is of such high perfection that one cannot help but check the potter’s mark.
