Description

This is a Bizen sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen pottery since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. The unique pattern known as "Ryumon" (flowing pattern) gives the piece a distinctive presence, evoking the atmosphere of an ancient ritual vessel. The piece is finished with a full ash coating ("so-haikaburi") that complements the flowing design, while the combination of gray ash and purple scorch marks enhances its overall perfection. The interior features a smooth, gray ash-coated finish, creating an entirely new aesthetic while being crafted using purely traditional Bizen techniques. Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
Diameter 7.0cm x Diameter 7.0cm x Height 4.9cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ceramic artist Shosuke Baba. Having considered becoming a potter since he was young, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his perspective on ceramics. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture in 2006 and further honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
