Description
This is a Bizen sake cup by Hisanaga Koide, who made his long-awaited debut after completing a long apprenticeship under Juro Harada. The work combines the bold modeling reminiscent of Juro Harada with a kiln-change (yohen) effect created through intense reduction firing. The intense sesame-glaze (goma), which has a slight greenish tint, has a unique texture that feels almost like a porous mineral. The magnificent round "marunuke" (unfired circular patch) on the front shines faintly like steel due to the strong reduction. The interior also features an exceptionally rare landscape created by the strong reduction; the stone bursts (ishihaze) appear on the black kiln-changed surface like star shapes, making it look as if copper-colored stars are shining on a black background. (*Please note that there is a stone burst on the side of the interior, but it does not affect its use.)
Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
