Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by Shin Nakamura, a renowned master of sake vessels and tableware and the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, the legendary Bizen potter celebrated for his sake ware. This piece was fired thoroughly in front of the flames, causing the intense heat to warp it into a triangular shape. The "nuke" (clear patch) on the front retains a faint scarlet hue, which, combined with the shimmering black-silver ash glaze, speaks to the ferocity of the fire. The veteran artist’s elegant form has been further enhanced by the flames, resulting in a remarkably intriguing silhouette. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
W7.8cm × W7.7cm × H5.0cm Born as the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, Shin Nakamura began learning the foundations of pottery under his father in 1971, diligently honing his skills. To master the firing techniques of Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige, he also assisted Michiaki Kaneshige with kiln firings for ten years, receiving his guidance. He established his own studio in 1975. He creates a variety of works, focusing on tea ceramics and tableware, as well as flower vases, sake bottles, and sake cups. He holds frequent solo exhibitions in cities across Japan, including Tokyo, Okayama, and Nagoya.
