Description

This is a black sake bottle by Masao Akitani, who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works full of unique originality with a fresh sensibility. Its perfectly round, ball-like form brings a new breeze to Bizen ware that we have never seen before. Numerous flowing linear patterns are carved into the form, making it look almost like a globe with satellite orbital paths, a testament to Akitani's astonishingly creative sense. The black glaze has a beautiful luster, and the generously applied sesame glaze forms a mantle of blue kiln-transmutation and gold. Signed wooden box (double-slatted lid)
Rim 3.5cm x Body diameter 11.0cm x Body diameter 11.0cm x Height 14.2cm Capacity approx. 600cc Masao Akitani was born in Saitama in 1968. In 1998, he began an apprenticeship under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki. After ten years of training, he built his own kiln in Bizen and became independent in 2008. He held his first kiln firing in 2009. His works have been selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art's "Chado Forms" exhibition and the Japan Kōgei Association Chugoku Branch exhibition, and he has received awards such as the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition Prize and the Encouragement Award.
