Description

This is a latest Bizen black sake bottle fresh from the kiln by Masao Akiya, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality within a fresh spirit. The clay has been blended to enhance its plasticity, and sharp vertical cuts give the entire form a taut, refined appearance. Furthermore, these cuts are coated with black slip, allowing them to reflect light and making the piece as enjoyable to gaze upon as it is to use. The generously applied *goma* (ash glaze) has created magnificent beaded drips and a cobalt blue rim. Signed wooden box (double-slatted)
Rim 3.8cm × Body diameter 8.6cm × Body diameter 8.4cm × Height 13.2cm Capacity: approx. 350cc Masao Akiya was born in Saitama in 1968. In 1998, he began an apprenticeship under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, and after ten years of training, he built his own kiln in Bizen and became independent in 2008. He held his first kiln opening in 2009. His work has been selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art’s "Tea Ceremony Sculpture Exhibition" and the Japan Kōgei Association Chugoku Branch Exhibition, and he has received awards including the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition Prize and the Encouragement Award.
