Description

This is a new *yohen* (kiln-transmuted) sake cup by Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe and has loved Bizen ware since childhood, finding his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. Using clay with high fire resistance, this piece demonstrates a controlled approach to the highly unpredictable *haikaburi* (ash-covered) kiln transmutation. It was crafted with the intention of achieving an all-over ash coating, resulting in a dull, shimmering purple sheen that could be described as "silver-violet." Due to the intense kiln effects, a simple form was chosen to allow the viewer to focus on and enjoy the firing quality. The contrast between the intense *yohen* on the exterior and the soft, lustrous quality of the clay on the interior is another captivating feature.
