Description

This is a new yohen (kiln-transmuted) tea bowl by Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe and has loved Bizen ware since childhood, finding his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. He creates a soft atmosphere by slowly building the clay by hand, which harmonizes beautifully with the grey scenery created by the kiln transmutation. The rough texture of the surface and the slightly relaxed, expansive form match in a remarkably comfortable way, making the piece feel as though it exists somewhere between stone and ceramic. Both the front and the interior feature yellow highlights, skillfully illustrating the contrast between the intensity of the clay and the softness characteristic of a yohen work.
