Description

This new Ibe sake cup is the work of Iwao Kaneshige, who has diligently devoted himself to his craft at the kiln passed down through generations from the great Toyo Kaneshige and Michiaki Kaneshige, having been born and raised in the prestigious Kaneshige family. The simple composition, relying solely on the straightforward taste of the clay, is a style unique to Iwao-sensei, who places his full trust in Bizen clay. The clay itself, with its deep, slightly orange-tinged character, is incredibly fine-grained and will surely be a joy to use over time. This simple style, underpinned by a stoic approach, is one that will never tire and can be cherished for years to come. Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
Diameter 8.0cm x 7.8cm x Height 3.7cm Iwao Kaneshige is the eldest son of Michiaki Kaneshige. Born and raised in a family of Bizen ware artists, he pursued a path in ceramics out of his own love for the craft. After refining his techniques under the guidance of the Kaneshige family, he became independent in 1995 and held his first solo exhibition at a gallery in Okayama. He participated in the Kaneshige Family Exhibitions in 1999 and 2001.
