Description
This is the latest Ibe sake cup by Mashiro Aiga, a potter who creates works that are uncompromisingly straight and have real backbone. While finished with a slip coating, the clever use of fire-resistant clay creates a gradient effect in the surface texture. Aiga-sensei is exceptionally skilled in his use of fire-resistant clay, resulting in an Ibe-te surface that features a deep scarlet gradient, reminiscent of a ripe grape held up to the light. The foot and waist are left free of the slip, revealing a glossy surface like melted chocolate that is truly spectacular to behold. The two distinct clay textures on the body and waist create an astonishing flavor, resulting in a unique, one-of-a-kind surface that cannot be seen anywhere else.
