Description

This is a new Bizen hidaski sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. By applying a strong reduction firing in a kiln he built in recent years, the piece has attained a unique, dark bluish-black surface. This dark complexion enhances the hues of the hidaski (fire-cord) markings, making the scarlet patterns appear as if they are floating on the surface. The areas where the hidaski and the surface textures are worn away have turned black, perfectly complementing the colors of the work and giving it a presence akin to an antique that has survived for hundreds of years. (*There is a slight wobble, but it stabilizes once filled with sake.) Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.3cm x Diameter 6.9cm x Height 6.2cm Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976. He completed his studies at the Bizen Pottery Center in 1996.
