Description

This is a Bizen sake flask by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. What is truly astonishing is the fine texture of the "kase-goma" (dry ash glaze), which feels so close to unbaked clay that you can enjoy the delicate touch of the soil while admiring the kiln-transformed colors. The quality of the clay, with its magnificent scarlet hues, is superb, and the persimmon-orange kiln transformation is skillfully highlighted by the artist's masterful use of "botamochi" (flame-shielding marks). The balance between the length of the neck and the girth of the body is exquisite, conveying the dignity earned from seventeen years of dedicated work. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Rim 4.4cm × Body diameter 10.0cm × Body diameter 10.0cm × Height 14.5cm; Capacity 430cc Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father’s love of pottery, he aspired to pursue the craft. After graduating from high school in 1989, he began his apprenticeship under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Aruho Kaneshige to learn ceramic techniques. After seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and successfully produced his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionery Containers I Want to Use," and in 2002, he was first selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition."
