Description
This Bizen sake cup is by Takeshi Ikeanishi, an artist who, true to the name of his "Fugen-gama" (Silent Kiln), practices "actions speak louder than words" by continuously challenging himself to create masterpieces inspired by the classics, captivating people with his brilliant and bold works. The mastery of his kiln firing and clay selection is vividly apparent in this piece, which features a coexistence of a completely matte yellow sesame glaze (yoh-goma) and a rich, lustrous clay texture. The yellow sesame glaze, reminiscent of old Bizen, appears like a collection of fine particles, looking much like flowers blooming in profusion. The clay texture, which shines as it shifts through various hues of reddish-purple and brown, glistens as if it were wet.
