Description

This is a Bizen sake cup by the master craftsman Ishii Furo, who supported Bizen ware through its difficult times and led it to its current prosperity. It is a work with a presence reminiscent of ancient Bizen, featuring a deep scarlet "hidasuki" (fire-cord) pattern on reddish-brown clay. It was thrown on a wheel over a bed of ash, and its sunken, pitted foot is highly characteristic. The interior features a three-tiered design that provides a sense of rhythmic movement. Dealer's box (two-sided cross-bar) (no bookmark included)
Diameter 9.2cm x Diameter 8.5cm x Height 6.4cm Master Ishii Furo was a holder of the Prefectural Important Intangible Cultural Property and was renowned as a master of tea ceramics and decorative ware. His "Heart Sutra Teapot," for which he carved the Heart Sutra into a thousand teapots, was a labor of over a decade. In his later years, he worked on red Raku tea bowls, eventually perfecting his own style of red-fired pottery.
