Description

This new black sake bottle is the work of Masao Akitani, who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with a unique originality amidst a new spirit. The natural ash glaze and black slip have melted and blended together, creating a dreamlike landscape reminiscent of rain streaming down a windowpane. Due to the influence of the natural ash glaze, the rim exhibits a very vivid cobalt blue, allowing you to enjoy changes in color as it is used. Rather than using flat techniques like incising marks, the shoulder has been carved with stepped contours to pursue beauty as a three-dimensional form. (There is some slight instability due to the shape of the base.) Signed wooden box (double-slatted lid)
Rim 3.8cm × Body diameter 10.0cm × Body diameter 9.7cm × Height 14.5cm; Capacity: approx. 520cc Masao Akitani was born in Saitama in 1968. In 1998, he began a ten-year apprenticeship under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, and in 2008, he established his own kiln in Bizen and became independent. His first kiln firing took place in 2009. His works have been selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" and the Japan Kogei Association Chugoku Branch Exhibition, and he has received awards such as the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition's Prefectural Exhibition Award and Encouragement Award.
