Description
This is a new Bizen sake cup by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family. He is committed to traditional clay preparation, using clay refined by hand without the use of sedimentation or pug mills, and then aged for several years before use. By carefully firing this painstakingly prepared clay, he achieves a kiln-altered glaze (yohen) that combines both intensity and elegance, with linear patterns known as "kumadori" emerging particularly at the interface with the clay. While the surface is carbonized to a black-silver luster, the areas where the glaze has pulled away reveal the clay's natural, seepage-like scarlet tone, evoking the life force of the earth.
Signed wooden box (shiho-zan) included.
Diameter 7.5cm × Diameter 7.2cm × Height 5.0cm Jumpei Kaneshige was born in Komaba, Tokyo, in 1972 as the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige.
