Description
This Ibe tea bowl is the latest work by Mashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating works that are unwaveringly straightforward and possess real grit. As expected of a piece that finally met the artist’s own rigorous standards, it is a remarkably powerful work that impresses in both its firing and its construction. The layers of "yellow sesame" (ki-goma) glaze are finely raised like mountain ranges seen in satellite photography in some areas, while in others, they cascade like a waterfall. The surface has been fired until it achieved a molten, syrupy texture, giving it a unique luster reminiscent of melting chocolate. The bold, substantial form is slightly tapered on the left side, carefully adjusted to fit comfortably in the hand.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
