Description

This is a new black tokkuri sake bottle by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. The piece was created by throwing a thick layer of clay and then carving it away with a hook-shaped spatula to achieve the envisioned form. In the process of shaving away the clay left around the base, three legs were carved out, designed to resemble the boosters of a space rocket. This piece allows one to feel the emergence of a definitive "Baba Bizen" style within his youthful and surging design sensibility. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping).
Rim 3.7cm × Body diameter 8.7cm × Body diameter 8.5cm × Height 14.5cm Capacity: approx. 280ml Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. Thinking from a young age that he would become a ceramic artist, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his perspective on pottery. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts sculpture department in 2006 and further honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. He is currently active, focusing primarily on solo exhibitions at department stores.
