Description

This is a Bizen water dropper by Living National Treasure Toshu Yamamoto, a master who created numerous masterpieces with peerless skills described as god-like. It is a magical water dropper where the brilliance of his technique, befitting a master of the potter's wheel, makes you feel as if you are holding a large jar in the palm of your hand. The white-toned clay, characteristic of his final years, exudes a sense of cleanliness, and combined with the crisp, kiln-fired yellow sesame glaze (kama-goma), it achieves a high-level fusion of weathered aesthetic and refreshing charm. Its incredibly adorable form will surely delight fans as a pure collector's item. It radiates an outstanding presence that is a joy to display, and it would also serve perfectly as a vase for a single flower. (Please note that there is some peeling of the sesame glaze on the rim.) Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter including spout 7.4cm × diameter 7.0cm × height 6.8cm Toshu Yamamoto (1906–1994, born in Imbe, Bizen City) entered the world of pottery in 1921 and established his own kiln in 1933. He later refined his skills under the guidance of Kyoto potter Yaichi Kusube. After the war, he deepened his friendships with figures such as Rosanjin Kitaoji and Isamu Noguchi. Known as "Toshu of the Potter's Wheel," he was renowned for his superb throwing technique and delicate creations. He worked enthusiastically on tea ceramics, primarily tea caddies (cha-ire), establishing his position as a master of tea ware. He had a particular fondness for tea caddies, of which he produced many. He was designated a Living National Treasure (Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property) in 1987. In 1992, he held the exhibition "Travels of the Six Old Kilns: Living National Treasure Toshu Yamamoto."
