Description

This is a new Bizen black sake cup fired in the new kiln of Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe, has loved Bizen ware since childhood, and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. It is a rare piece in which the black color has transformed into cobalt blue due to intense ash-covering, fired in a position that captures ash-covered kiln variation (hai-kaburi yohen). The rugged, rock-like form is well-suited to the fiercely jagged blue kiln-altered surface. The artist mentioned that he applied a different type of clay to the interior of the cup to create crackling (kannyu). (Photo 8: Please note that there is a large, rough crack from the rim to the foot, which is intended by the artist.)
