Description

This is a new Bizen sake flask by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his skills on the rigorous path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. This piece is a personal interpretation by Tamon of the traditional *henko* (flattened) sake flask, a form long crafted by the Kaneshige family. It features a tasteful, slightly oval silhouette, with a sensual beauty in the curve of its sides that defies description. The *yohen* (kiln change) glaze has turned a soft, pale gray, accented by a *nuke* (a patch of bare clay) highlighted with golden tones—a surface that will surely take on a beautiful patina as it absorbs the droplets of sake poured from it. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipping).
Rim 3.2cm x Body 10.6cm x Body 9.5cm x Height 10.8cm; Capacity approx. 380cc Tamon Kaneshige was born in Okayama City in 1977. He graduated from the Faculty of Business and Commerce at Keio University in 2000. In 2004, he began his journey in ceramics under his father, Susumu Kaneshige. He held his first solo exhibition at Okayama Tenmaya in 2011.
