Description

This is a new Bizen kiln-transmutation sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It is a sake cup that combines a moist, pleasant-textured ash-covered surface with a vibrant scarlet hue that looks as if it might ooze fruit juice. The interior features a refined combination of subdued grey and perilla-leaf colors, making the contrast with its vivid front side all the more intriguing. The rim is slightly thick, giving the piece a palpable presence when in use, which I believe will allow the sake to flow in with vigor. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included.
Diameter 6.9cm x Diameter 6.8cm x Height 5.3cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, a pottery enthusiast, he aspired to pursue the path of ceramics. After graduating from high school in 1989, he apprenticed under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho to learn the craft. Following seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to establish his independence, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Pottery for Sweets from the North" exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for his first "Tea Ceremony Design" exhibition.
