Description
This is a Bizen sake cup by Masashiro Aiga, a creator of works that are uncompromisingly direct and spirited. A rugged, coarse ash glaze reminiscent of volcanic rock covers the entire piece, with intense natural glazing forming a pale green film that creates a landscape unique to Aiga. It is such an intense and one-of-a-kind appearance that one could easily believe it was carved from a reef with a drill. The earthy clay, with its bitter-chocolate hue, peeks through the gaps in the heavy ash coating; the rustic texture appearing from beneath the intense ash mantle is truly captivating.
