Description

This Bizen sake bottle by Takashi Soga is a challenge to the beauty of antiquity, created by recreating the same conditions under which ancient Bizen ware was fired. The "Soga-style" kiln transformation, arrived at through trial and error—changing the clay and firing method with every kiln load—is magnificent. The soft surface, created using only carefully selected clay, displays a stunning scarlet hue that proves Mr. Soga's words: "The quality of the clay is what leads to the quality of the scenery." The texture is also of a high standard; the clay surface and ash are incredibly refined, making it appear as if it were a piece of ancient Bizen ware that has aged for hundreds of years. This is a marvelous sake bottle that satisfies all five senses: delighting the eyes, enjoying fine sake on the lips, and feeling joy in the palm of one's hand.
