Description
This is a new Ido sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superior aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. Reflecting the passion of Mr. Morimoto—who is dedicated to researching not only Bizen ware but also Ido-style works—this piece possesses a dignity and understated elegance that approaches the classical. Wishing to translate the comfortable feel of an Ido tea bowl loved by ancient tea masters directly into a sake cup, he has created an elegantly formed piece that features exquisite crackling and *kairagi* (plum-blossom glaze texture), suggesting it will develop a wonderful patina with use. This particular piece is especially notable for its *gohonde*—the beautiful pale reddish spots that harmonize perfectly with the gentle, milky-white glaze, which is restrained in its vibrancy.
