Description

This is a Bizen Hidasuki sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist and former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. Hidasuki requires a level of quality that relies entirely on the excellence of the clay, as no natural ash glaze is applied to the surface, yet this piece is a magnificent achievement reminiscent of the work of his mentor, Sozan Kaneshige. The Kaneshige spirit is also evident in the base, which features a notably large foot rim with powerful, deeply gouged carvings. You can enjoy the texture of the raw clay, which will gradually become smoother with use, allowing you to appreciate its evolution for years to come. Original signed wooden box (Shiho-san)
Diameter 7.2cm × Diameter 7.1cm × Height 6.1cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he aspired to a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school, he studied under Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989. Following seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and successfully completed his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Pottery for Northern Sweets" exhibition, and in 2002, it was selected for the "Forms of Tea Ceremony" exhibition for the first time.
