Description
True to the name of his studio, Fugen-gama ("Silent Practice Kiln"), Tsuyoshi Ikehishi continues to challenge the masterpieces of antiquity through action rather than words, captivating audiences with his magnificent and bold works. This kohiki (powder-blown) lugged sake cup is an ambitious piece by Ikehishi, in which he has perfectly recreated a lugged cup from the early Joseon dynasty. The finish uses celadon glaze, with its pale green tone softening the vibrancy of the white kohiki slip to create a refined, understated expression. The layers of slip, glaze, and clay body form a pattern with remarkable depth; as it is used over time, the developing patina will only add to this depth, allowing the piece to grow and mature.
