Description

This Bizen potato-shaped sake bottle is a work by Takashi Soga, an artist who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the same environment in which old Bizen ware was fired. Reflecting his deep respect for old Bizen, Soga-sensei fires carefully selected clay as if to mature it within the flames, creating a moist, refined, and gentle texture. Although the surface is exposed through the *hidasuki* (fire-cord) firing technique, the clay particles are remarkably calm and settled, resulting in a magnificent texture that is a pleasure to simply touch. In keeping with old Bizen, the neck was formed by adding a separate piece of clay, and the nuances of the *hidasuki* change accordingly, adding further depth of light and shadow to the sophisticated scenery of the piece.
