Description

This is a Bizen ware *warisansho* (split pepper-shaped bowl) by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his craft on the demanding path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. Distinct from the sensual appeal of Sozan Kaneshige or the masculine strength of Susumu Kaneshige, this piece showcases Tamon’s unique style: meticulous yet swift and sharp. Created using the same clay as his father Susumu, the *tsuchiaji* (texture and color of the clay) along the exterior creates a magnificent gradation, shifting from a bright brown to a rich, dense *shiso* (perilla-leaf) purple. Inside, a matte, yellow *goma* (ash glaze) reminiscent of dry sand enhances the luster and color of any food served in it.
