Description

This Bizen shochu cup is the work of Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his skills on the rigorous path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. Fired in front of the flames to catch the falling ash, the piece is coated in a thick layer of "goma" (sesame) glaze that resembles a second skin. Despite being fired so intensely, the natural quality of the clay remains vibrant, with a moist, reddish-purple earth tone visible in the interior and at the base. True to the Kaneshige family's hallmark of meticulous craftsmanship, the cup is exceptionally smooth to the touch despite its dramatic firing, and the refinement of its finish is evident from the moment you run your hand over it. Signed wooden box (two-way slat)
Diameter 9.2cm × Diameter 8.9cm × Height 10.5cm Tamon Kaneshige was born in Okayama City in 1977. He graduated from the Faculty of Business and Commerce at Keio University in 2000. In 2004, he began his pursuit of pottery under the guidance of his father, Susumu Kaneshige. In 2011, he held a solo exhibition at Okayama Tenmaya.
