Description

This Bizen teacup is by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his craft on the rigorous path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. The piece is finished using a relatively coarse clay with a high sand content, even for high-quality Bizen clay. It has been fired slowly in a high-heat area, resulting in a generous layer of matte, scorched black sesame ash glaze layered over a glossy sesame glaze. The interior is also well-coated with black sesame ash, which coexists beautifully with the lovely shiso-red hue without masking the natural character of the clay. Signed wooden box (double-crosspiece lid)
Diameter 7.7cm × Diameter 7.4cm × Height 10.5cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he aspired to a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school, he studied pottery techniques under the tutelage of Sozan Kaneshige and his son, Yuho Kaneshige, starting in 1989. After seven years of apprenticeship, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Confectionery Container Exhibition of Pieces You'd Like to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chano-yu Form Exhibition" for the first time.
