Description
This is a new colored Bizen sake cup by Anjin Abe, a creator who possesses deep insight and a refined aesthetic sense for antique pottery, and who creates one-of-a-kind works through his unique research and firing techniques. This sake cup features a grasshopper motif painted in the same style as a piece scheduled to be featured in *Honoo Geijutsu* magazine, and this is a strictly limited production. It is an excellent piece that skillfully depicts a charming grasshopper walking under the blazing sun, rendered in shades of pale blue and green. You can also enjoy the profound *nagare-goma* (flowing sesame glaze) characteristic of a master of Momoyama tea ceramics, as seen once again in the Furuta Oribe Exhibition, the Hakaku Exhibition, and the Anjin Abe Exhibition, where the worlds of Momoyama tea ceramics and Anjin Abe’s own unique style intersect brilliantly.

Diameter 6.9cm × Diameter 6.0cm × Height 6.4cm Anjin Abe was formerly a Western-style painter. He began collecting pottery as a hobby, but feeling unsatisfied with contemporary Bizen ware, he began his own career in ceramics in 1972 to create pieces that met his standards. He frequently creates water jars, flower vases, flattened jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups. All pieces are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. He bases his pottery on the antique Bizen ware of the Momoyama period and is deeply particular about his firing process. He is also involved in diverse forms of creative activity, releasing mixed-media works that combine various materials and techniques, such as ceramics, lacquer, oil paint, and bronze. He holds solo exhibitions energetically both in Japan and abroad, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
