Description
This new Bizen sake cup is the work of Masashiro Aiga, an artist who creates works that are uncompromisingly direct and possess great integrity. After a long silence, Masashiro Aiga has surprised us once again with a work of even greater scale. The intense blue-gray *sangiri* (kiln-altered coloring) that only Aiga can produce covers the entire surface, and its texture, reminiscent of a rocky seaside cliff, makes you feel as if you are scooping up and drinking from the sea. The scarlet clay has been fired to its limit, resulting in a depth of flavor that calls to mind a vintage wine.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 10.0cm x Diameter 9.7cm x Height 3.8cm Masashiro Aiga graduated from the Okayama Prefectural Bizen Pottery Center in 1997. In 2003, he built a fully underground anagama (tunnel) kiln in Samukawa. The following year, in 2004, he built a second semi-underground anagama kiln, where he continues to devote himself to his craft.
