Description

This is a Bizen sake cup by Takashi Soga, an artist who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the same environment in which old Bizen ware was fired. It features a powerful ash-covered kiln transformation, yet it possesses a remarkably rounded, soft texture—an embodiment of the "contradiction" that is a hallmark of Soga-sensei’s work. True to an artist passionate about reproducing old Bizen, the *shiso*-red color in the interior is so deep it could be mistaken for an antique. Despite its substantial appearance, it is pleasantly lightweight, and the three spatula marks provide an excellent grip; contrary to its intense Bizen-style firing, the cup is easy to use and remarkably comfortable in the hand. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping)
Diameter 7.2cm × Diameter 6.9cm × Height 5.5cm Takashi Soga was born in Tokyo in 1984. He studied under Jun Isezaki in 2009 and built his own kiln in Kuku-i, Bizen City, in 2012. He began his independent career as a potter in 2013.
