Description

This Bizen sake cup is by Takashi Soga, an artist who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the same environment in which Old Bizen was fired. While the surface has a matte, non-lustrous quality overall, it has not lost its sheen entirely, possessing the very "contradictory luster" found in Old Bizen. Furthermore, the scenery of this piece, with its ochre surface overlaid by rich *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings, boasts an exquisite texture that rivals the finest Old Bizen, rarely seen even within a single kiln firing. The indescribable reproducibility of Old Bizen, combined with the brilliance of the piece itself—which transcends even that—will surely captivate the hearts of connoisseurs.
