Description

This is a platinum-glazed glass "Hagakure" by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakizaki and made a sensational debut. While one is immediately drawn to the avant-garde design brimming with originality, holding the piece reveals the immense passion poured into expressing the beauty of clay as a material. Achieving such beautiful curves and edges requires a profound understanding of the clay's properties, followed by a daunting amount of time and meticulous effort; this work was born from the relentless forging of clay, much like a master swordsmith. Named "Hagakure" (Hidden Leaves), this piece features platinum glaze with a voluminous, liquid-metal quality, accented by a single streak of red glaze reminiscent of fresh blood, creating a world where stillness and motion switch brilliantly, much like a choreographed sword fight. The sharp lines of the body fit perfectly in the hand, and the substantial glaze provides an excellent grip, making this a masterpiece that excels not only in design but also in usability. (Please note that there is a slight wobble, but this does not affect its use.) Paper box (paulownia wood box can be produced separately)
Diameter 7.7cm x Diameter 7.5cm x Height 11.7cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began studying under Ryuichi Kakizaki in June 2011 and became independent in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
