Description
This is a platinum-glazed sake cup by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. While one is immediately drawn to the avant-garde design brimming with originality, holding it in your hands reveals the immense passion poured into expressing the beauty of the clay itself. Creating these beautiful curves and edges requires a deep understanding of the material's properties, coupled with an astonishing amount of time and meticulous effort; it is a work born from forging the clay with single-minded devotion, much like a swordsmith. This process gives rise to rough, wild cracks and textures on the vessel's surface that human hands alone could never replicate, creating a magnificent harmony with the color and volume of the glazes, which are specially blended for each clay type. He skillfully maneuvers the challenging platinum glaze, firing it to the perfect level of brilliance for a sake cup.
