Description

This is a new Bizen "Nerikomi" (kneaded clay) sake cup in black by Koji Nakahara, a student of Fumio Kawabata who aims to create works that suit modern life. This sake cup features a texture reminiscent of granite, created by blending 10 different types of clay and firing them to a high density. It is crafted by meticulously packing the clay—primarily mountain soil—to fill any gaps, resulting in a complex pattern and an unprecedented hue that evokes an irresistible urge to pick it up and use it. To allow the unique texture to shine, it is finished with a simple "Hidasuki" (fire-cord) effect, resulting in a smooth surface that is exceptionally comfortable to use. The piece is built on a highly sophisticated concept, focused entirely on revealing the raw clay through repeated polishing with abrasive paper. Signed wooden box (Nihō-san)
