Description
This Bizen tea bowl is by Tomio Ochi, an artist who diligently dedicated himself to kiln firing under the guidance of Yasuhito Abe, and who pours his unquenchable passion into his ceramics. The surface features a strong, reddish clay body, and its texture—reminiscent of a concentrated *hi-dasuki* (fire-cord) pattern—stands out from the typical *shiso*-colored skin, giving it a unique character. The *goma* (ash glaze) is of the "scattered" type favored by the Abe school, where the accumulation of ash creates a landscape defined by gradations in the thickness of each individual bead and intricate crackling, resulting in a profound visual depth. With its rugged, rock-like body and a thick, substantial foot, the bowl possesses an aloof presence akin to an antique Bizen tea bowl.
