Description
This is a Bizen sake cup by Junpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of the leading master of the Kaneshige lineage, Kosuke Kaneshige. Fine "kase-goma" (dry sesame glaze) clings to the surface of the vessel like a skin. This kase-goma, nurtured in the kiln by exposure to abundant smoke, creates a magnificent landscape tinged with pale blue that is unmistakably Bizen by Kaneshige. The four-sided shape, rarely seen even among Junpei's works, is truly whimsical.
