Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, a former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. This latest piece was fired in the spring of 2016 and is a magnificently fired sake cup from what appears to have been a highly successful kiln firing. It features the "black sesame" (kuro-goma) glaze that Master Koriki has long yearned for and pursued in the style of Kaneshige Bizen. The profound scenery created by the combination of yellow and black sesame glazes is deeply moving precisely because of its simplicity. As it was fired using the kiln-change (yohen) technique often employed for tea ceramics such as tea bowls, it is not only visually stunning but also designed for comfort, particularly around the rim. Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 6.6cm x Diameter 6.5cm x Height 5.8cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved pottery, he aspired to a career in ceramic art. After graduating from high school in 1989, he studied ceramic techniques under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and his son, Yuho Kaneshige. After seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and set out on his own, successfully completing his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionery Containers I Want to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
