Description

This is a freshly kiln-fired Ibe sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. True to the Ibe name, this piece is filled with playfulness, featuring unique irregularities as if hand-molded and a wavy rim. The thickly applied sesame glaze has a density reminiscent of oil paint, and because it was cooled slowly, it streaks like a flickering flame. Consistent with Morimoto's style, the clay surface is not a solid black but a complex blend of brownish-tan and dark purple, resulting in a finish with an incredible depth of color.
